Even the line guiding of this new cable way corresponds with the service motto of the company. Daunting descents and rides through tunnels in a chair lift - which caused discomfort for some guests - are now definitely a thing of the past. The Golden Jet majestically crosses the Talbach Gorge at a comfortable height. All suggestions which the company received in regular guest surveys were taken into full consideration.

Time saved: It used to take 18 minutes using two chair lifts; now one is transferred from the "Golden Jet" lower terminus (opposite the new hospital) into the middle of the Planai ski region (Kessler Alp) in 7 minutes.

"The new "Golden Jet""hits the spot" from a guest's viewpoint. It means more than the construction of a cable way, it represents the creation of a second means of transfer to the Planai. One which is both powerful and comfortable and which establishes an attractive cable-car connection between Planai and Hochwurzen. The modern architecture of the lower terminus will be a noteworthy composition." says Komm. Rat Dir. (Councillor of Commerce, Director) Albert Baier, managing director of Planai-Hochwurzen Cable Ways, who estimates this improvement in comfort for our guests at approx. 11 m Euros.

Furthermore, this venture represents Styria's largest single tourist investment of this year. The project is part of Deputy Prov. Gov. Hermann Schützenhofer's "Fit for the World Cup Programme", which he commissioned in 2004, aimed to support the region's application for the Ski World Cup in 2011 or 2013.
The architectural concept travels untrodden pathways: The building design is a simulation of various carving-curve radii and will thus represent the visualised and constructed force of skiing. The dynamic curve combines diverse functions beneath its design which are aimed at client service.
The primary structure allows for successive extension with further tourist facilities: Catering facilities, ski shop and service, deposit and more are planned. The modular system enables prompt and optimal reaction to future developments, trends and client needs.
There are numerous parking places for cars and buses surrounding the lower terminus. The "Golden Jet" is well connected to the public transport system (Ski-bus station nearby, Schladming train station in 5 minute walking distance).

Technical data in short:
The "Golden Jet" is a powerful 8-person cabin cable way manufactured by Doppelmayr. 87 cabins transfer 2408 persons per hour, the altitude difference between upper and lower (Planai West) termini is 640 m. You can follow the construction progress in real time on The project will be documented all the way to completion with the help of a construction diary as well as a web cam with photo gallery.
