Solden - Otztal, Austria

Austria's Largest Developed Area of Glacier Skiing

fantasticslopes for all levels of enthusiast Breathtaking views; three mountains peaks over 3000m and each connected by lift; think Austria's largest developed area of glacier skiing; think idyllic mountain villages, apres ski entertainment, in fact think BIG!.

All of this adds up to a winter sports holiday in the stunning resort of Solden, located in the Otztal Valley - a ski paradise which has become known as one of Europe's best known and most popular skiing areas. On offer are a wide choice of downhill runs suitable for the novice and expert alike. Where the winter season starts in early October on the glacier and ends ln the middle of May.

Above the main resort is the village of Hochsolden at 2090m and favoured by the good to expert skiers as an ideal starting point to the higher slopes before the "morning rush!" Having said that there is a modern and more than adequate link from the resort of Solden to middle station at Giggijoch (2284m) and from here you can access Hainbachjoch (2727m) or alternatively head for Rotkoglijoch (2662m)and then take a series of lifts which eventually lead across to Rettenbachjoch (3014m) and up to the glacier skiing at Tiefenbachjoch (3309m).

Also in the Otztal Valley and near to Solden are the enchanting villages of Zwieselstein and Vent. The latter resort boasts twin chairlifts and 15km of downhill skiing and a 5km-long tobogganing run.

At the nearby village of Langenfeld you will find the famous Tirol Therme Aqua Dome where you and your partner can immerse yourselves in a thermal spa in the middle of the mountains. Invigorating! You can rinse away the humdrum of everyday life; relax in both indoor and outdoor heated swimming pools; feel the glow of life in the sauna and for the ladies - enjoy some pampering in the Beauty and Body Treatment area.

But Solden and Otztal is all about skiing and for families with children, this is a winter wonderland of snow covered pine forests, great facilities and prizes for weekly ski races. Where a free ski-bus service runs between Lngenfeld, Slden, Zwieselstein and Vent, allowing you to leave your car at the hotel and try the whole "circus" of lifts, staying close to the resort or exploring the high slopes up to the world of glaciers above 3000m.

Perhaps for some apres ski relaxation you could enjoy a horse-drawn sleigh ride or the toboggan trail which winds like a snake through the winter landscape.

The village of Solden provides all the amenities - and more besides - you would expect from a world leader in winter sports. From bars and cinema, to hotels with indoor pools, to restaurants and mountain huts providing mouth-watering dishes at lunchtimes. And perhaps a schnapps at the end of the skiing day to set you up for the evening ahead?

There are many special offers available throughout the season and the best way to find out is to contact the Otztal Tourist Office on: info@oetztal.com or their website: www.oetztal.com
