Located just below Europe's highest resort, Les Menuires forms part of the world-famous Trois Vallee region and links into Val Thorens, Meribel and Courcheval and has skiing for all abilities. The resort has 25 blue and 24 red runs and for the expert skier, there are 9 black pistes.
For many enthusiasts, Les Menuires is said to be the "perfect location" and a free bus service operates around the resort eliminating the use of the car for normal daily use.
The resort is at the top end of the Belleville Valley - a journey of approximately 595 miles from Calais - and although snow chains have to be carried in the car, it should not be necessary to use them unless a sudden fall of snow coincides with your drive up from Moutiers. There are sometimes French police checks on the road so do ensure you have your snow chains with you! For those flying, the airport at Chambery is the usual point of entry and train enthusiasts can use the connection to Moutiers where waiting coaches transfer you to the resort.
For the 2007-08 winter season is the Roc des 3 Marches cable car which is an eight-seater gondola with a capacity of 3200 people each hour. This lift has replaced the Combes chair lift and the Mont de la Chambre cable car.
In addition to more than adequate skiing terrain and lift facilities, Les Menuires has no shortage of restaurants, bars and nightclubs. There is also a swimming pool and cinema and an ice-skating rink.
The resort is divided into three areas; La Croissette, Preyerand and Roberty Les Bruyeres. So unless you have previously visited Les Menuires, it is a good idea to find out which part of the ski village you will be staying at.
For mums and dads taking young children, it is good to know there is a creche "Smurf Village" which takes kids from 3 months to 2 years.
