Pearl Of The Alps - Better Access For The Coming Winter

The top station offers spectacular views
Join the popular ski and snowboard tests, which will take place on our glacier again this autumn. During two months, from 4 October until 30 November 2008, you can test the new  skis or snowboards of the upcoming winter season in the Allalin snow sports area. Choose from the newest models and between about 14 different ski and snowboard brands.

High above Saas-Fee you will find perfectly groomed ski runs all year round. Enjoy the first virgin powder high above the glacier village. Besides skiing or boarding on the slopes, try out your skills in our Freestyle Park. This is a dream come true for all freestylers, offering a half pipe, large and small kicker lines, boxes, transitions and various rails.

Book our attractive package deal and enjoy the very first powder snow of the winter season. The package is available from 2 nights in a hotel or from 4 nights in a holiday apartment.

This spectacular mountain resort is surrounded by no fewer than thirteen 4,000m peaks leading to the distinctive name "Pearl of the Alps".

The resort has a very long skiing season which stretches from mid November through to May with glacier skiing opportunities both early and late. Here you will find the highest underground railway in the world - "The Pearl of the Alps" - which takes skiers to "Mittelallalin" at 3500m. Breathtaking!

Saas Fee hoasts the 5th FIS World Cup at the beginning of November with riders from all parts of the world will show off their skills. However, for skiers Saas Fee boasts 100km of piste and 26 lifts serving 32 runs, 5 of them black. The lift system can carry 26,000 people an hour. The resort is well worth the drive of around ll hours to this part of southern Switzerland.

No cars are allowed in the village and there is both an overground and underground car park providing ample parking opportunities for guests. Upon arrival you make a free phone call to your hotel and an electric vehicle arrives to take you and your luggage to your hotel. A very slick system and one which ensures minimal pollution and not much chance of being run down while walking through the resort's attractive shop-lined streets.

If you are in Saas Fee for a pre-Christmas skiing holiday (or indeed there over the Festive Season) you can enjoy the "5th Chain of Lights" in December 2008 in this glacier village.

New Mountain Cableways It would be nice to sit and chill for a little longer - but the slopes really are calling. The ride up Morenia on the new comfort chairlift (6-seater) is a delight. The formula 90+1 is modern too - that's how many people can travel on the futuristic Felskinn aerial cable car. The luxury cabins with panoramic views have replaced the old lifts, which first opened in 1969. Just float up the mountainside.

Skiing here is spectacular with the village being linked by the high-speed gondola to the middle station at Morenia (2550m) and then onwards and upwards to Felskinn at 3000m where the Metro-Alpin railway takes over. For the novice skier or youngsters there are very good nursery areas around the village and the recent installation of 60 snow cannons have ensured the lower slopes always have a good covering enabling skiers to get right back to the village late into the season.

In the summer and autumn the Alpin Express takes skiers onto the glacier area from 07.45 hours with the last return at 16.00 hours.  Skiing is possible on the glacier throughout the spring, summer and autumn and is an area growing in popularity with British enthusiasts. The winter sports area Saas-Fee/Saastal with its 140 km of slopes has something to offer for every taste. The big plus of the snow sports area: because of its high altitude location with slopes up to 3’600m above sea-level guarantee snow during the whole year.

For snowboarder there is a great area with halfpipes above Saas-Fee. Three fun parks await the freeskiers and snowboarders during the winter season and the fun park on Allalin is open all year round.
For mums and dads the season offers something special. Recognising the importance of families, Saas Fee offers FREE lift passes for those up to the age of 9 years. Kids' Week in Saas-Grund from 7 - 11 January 2008 and from 14 - 18 January 2008 will get the pulses of kids of all ages racing. No one's too small to be a skiing ace. An offer that even the youngest skiers will enjoy - and their parents: Kids' Week includes an interesting program for them too.

Saas-Fee tourism has put together an attractive winter package with a stay either in a hotel or holiday apartments. The price includes your ski pass. A one-week package includes 7 nights in one of the resort's 27 hotels or in a cosy holiday apartment. There is a 6-day ski pass for Saas-Fee, an activity programme (see information later in this article). Accommodation in a hotel is CHF 705,- or in a holiday apartment from CHF 474,-.

The activity programme is either a "wine tour"; journey in time in the glacier village, or a "torch-hike" which gives an insight into the culture and history of the Valais region.

For the coming winter there is the FIS Freestyle World Cup (30th October - 2nd November) in Saas Fee,  there will be a contest with ski and snowboard.

Saas Fee also has its first-ever 5* hotel. The Ferienat Resort and Spa Hotel is a "Wellness" hotel which means you can pamper yourself with a whole range of treatments, swimming pool, saunas, whirlpools, massage and other beauty treatments. (For the men too!)

Travel can either be by car which takes 10/11 hours from Calais or a flight into Geneva airport followed by a transfer of around 2/3 hours.
