Gstaad, Switzerland

An Up-Market Reputation Where Skiing Is Good

An Up-Market Reputation Where Skiing Is Good It has a glacier at more than 3,000m. You can enjoy superb summer skiing through June and July and it is "linked" to the nearby resort of Villars (1300m) with a total of 120km of marked downhill pistes and 50 various lifts.

Gstaad-Saanenland is a skiers paradise with a choice of villages, slopes to suit all abilities and a glacier to test the addicts who like height! Gstaad is 2 hours by road from Geneva and less than 3 hours from Basel (200km distance).

There ar 250km of ski runs in the region - the longest being 17km - and snowboarders are catered for with big quarter-pipe, big table jump, freeriding, cliff jumping and a permanent race track in nearby Saanenmoser.

It has a glacier at more than 3,000m. You can enjoy superb summer skiing through June and July and it is "linked" to the nearby resort of Villars (1300m) with a total of 120km of marked downhill pistes and 50 various lifts.

A winter holiday at Gstaad in the heart of the Alps Vaudoises is an experience not to be missed. And if you think you are limited to just the two resorts mentioned, then think again! The regional Alps Vaudoises ski ticket also allows you to take in Leysin, Mosses and nearby Gstaad giving you up to 500km of downhill slopes - wow! This is the place for a winter sports holiday - anytime. But an even better time is spring or early summer when glacier skiing at Diablerets really comes into its own. The "hot" sunshine means lots of factor +20 sunbloc but on the other hand you will enjoy long days, excellent spring-snow skiing and come back to the UK with a tan which will be the envy of all of your friends who will probably insist you have been to the Caribbean rather than to the "heart of Europe".

Gstaad is an ideal winter sports resort while neighbouring Diablerets enjoys its own excellent ski slopes of Isenau and Les Mazots in addition to the cablecar from the Col du Pillon (1546m) which ascends to Scex Rouge (2971m) for winter season skiing.

But from Meilleret (1949m) above Les Mazots chair lifts link to the considerable skiing area of Bretaye and Roc d'Orsay which form part of the Villars resort skiing area.

If you have your car, you can take in Les Mosses (1445m) and Leysin (1300m) and will surely find it difficult to fit it into a single weeks holiday. Better is to take two weeks at Diablerets and enjoy the vast skiing area on the one ticket.

The village itself is famous for the "rich and famous" but this should not put off the "less fortunate! Gstaad has something to offer everyone and accommodation need not be expensive. After all the slopes are used by everyone - rich or not so well off!

For the visitor there is a good choice of accommodation with hotels catering for anything from 15 to 220 guests at a time! There are 4-star and down to l-star Auberge hotels as well as a considerable number of guest houses. Food in this region is of a very high quality and the range of restaurants both in villages and out on the mountains is considerable. We promise you will not be disappointed!

In the summer you can enjoy the new 125-capacity cablecar to Glacier 3000m with a new two-storey restaurant facility and lifts to enable you to ski the glacier from early morning until the snow surface becomes too "heavy" by early afternoon.

Back in the resort there is a toboggan run, ice skating, swimming and sleigh rides. For the more adventurous you can go hot-air ballooning or take part in a torch-lit downhill ski "safari".
